The latest report from anti-virus company Panda Software has come to the unsurprising conclusion that broadband Internet users are still vulnerable to online hackers:
Hackers use PCs with broadband connections to steal passwords and use the infected computer to attack other machines on the net. Viruses can also get into computers via the internet by using unprotected communication ports.
Broadband customers tend to stay connected to the web for longer periods of time than surfers with 56k modem dial-up connections, which helps hackers or viruses to carry out their damaging actions, warns Panda.
Fixed IP address offered by some broadband ISPs can also makes malicious attacks easier for hackers. The usual advice of installing Anti-Virus software and a Firewall are given, something that all broadband users should do. Do not rely on your operating system to keep everything secure. More @
