New Wave Communications & Plenexis

Posted: 18th Mar, 2004 By: MarkJ
New Wave Communications, the little known one-way broadband satellite ISP, has today issued its customers with an update on the Plenexis (supplier) situation. The provider has managed to find an alternate solution via the Astra satellite:

Dear Customer,

As I'm sure you'll realise the Satellite Broadband industry is constantly changing and here at New Wave Communications we do our utmost to keep you informed of the latest developments.

At the moment your High Speed Internet access service is routed through to the Eurobird satellite by a German ground station operated by Plenexis GMBH. You may have read in the trade press about a patent court action in Germany which found against the company. They have decided not to appeal the decision and are as a result completely withdrawing from providing a one-way satellite broadband service.

I am pleased to say we have just secured a new routing to the Internet using the Astra satellite. We believe this will provide you with exactly the same or an even better level of service than we currently offer, at much the same price. Indeed, in the case of some of our download speeds, the new service will be cheaper than that offered by Plenexis. There will be only a minimal activation fee for the new service, which will also have a much increased monthly download capacity.

To move over to the new service you will need to uninstall Skybooster and then install some new software that will be available in the next 7-10 days. There will be no need to re-align your satellite dish or make any changes to your hardware.

We have been reviewing a number of different providers over the past few weeks and we believe that Astra will provide you with the best possible alternative to Plenexis. The new Astra service will be available from Thursday 25th March, and during the two or three weeks that follow we will assist all our customers with the change over.

We are writing to you because though we confidently expect that there will be no significant increase in price or service levels, a final contract is still with our legal team. In the event of any such alterations under the Terms & Conditions of our contract with you we need to give you 30 days notice of any such change and the opportunity to cancel our service without penalty. We aim to switch all customers to the new satellite connectivity on or before April 18th 2004. The Plenexis service will end on this date.

This change, which is beyond our control, has affected all satellite high speed Internet providers routed through Plenexis. We at New Wave Communications aim to do our utmost to ensure there is as little disruption to your service as is possible.

If you have any queries please email migration@wirefreeuk.com . We will be posting news about the migration process on the New Wave Communications website at http://www.newwavecommunications.co.uk.

We will contact you again on Thursday 25th March, with full details of how you should proceed should you wish to change over to the new service.
