ISP AOL UK has managed to incorrectly bill a staggering 60,000 of its Internet access customers. Users were reportedly billed three times for March due to an unspecified technical problem:
In an email to consumers AOL said: "Due to a temporary problem with our billing system that affected a small number of AOL members, we have regrettably billed your March 2004 charge three times."
AOL UK - which has more than two million users - said: "Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this matter may have caused. The temporary problem is now resolved and we are taking steps to try to ensure that this does not happen again."Since when did "
a small number" equate to the figure of 60,000? Ten to perhaps even a hundred or so is small; sixty thousand is not, regardless of how big the ISP itself may be.
On the bright side the ISP has managed to refund most of its customers, although a "very small" number remained (we're not saying anything =]). More @
