We've just uploaded a new survey to the front page, which asks "
How much would you spend (overall) on broadband content?". The results from our previous poll can be found as follows:
What's a fair data limit for a £20 512Kbps service?
NO Limits! - 53.1%
1Gb Per Day - 16.1%
2Gb Per Day - 9.1%
1Gb Per Week - 9%
3Gb Per Day+ - 6.1%
500/750mb Per Day - 3.7%
1Gb Per Month - 2.6%
Total Votes = 2188We were surprised to find that over half (53%) of you felt a budget (£20) speed broadband service could sustain no usage limits. The price point is so close to the bone that it leaves almost no room for other services, quality of support or profit.
16% were more realistic, seeing 1Gb per day as a fair cap, something a small number of providers have already adopted. A further 9% felt that greater flexibility was in order, thus voting for 2Gb per day with 6% hoping for a full 3Gb.
Still, BT's 1Gb per MONTH cap received a vote of no confidence with just a tiny 2.6% feeling they had the right idea. Perhaps most surprisingly of all was the
Telewest style cap of 500/750mb Per Day, which gained just 3.7%; we had expected it to do better.
From this we can conclude that most people expect their broadband connections to be largely unrestricted, something that could be a problem for ISPs.
