The THUS Telecom backed UK ISP Demon Internet apparently suffered a major service outage yesterday. Everything from e-mail services to some leased line customers appear to have been hit:
The Demon network status page has been lit up with red lights, which indicate a network problem, since early morning, when one of the company's data centres suffered an outage.
The page indicated that email servers were suffering since at least 11:30am. One angry user who contacted vnunet.com said that Pop3 access had been down since around 8am, although it was still possible to send mail.
Due to network routing problems some leased line customers were experiencing difficulty getting online and the entire D-commerce e-commerce system was down, affecting all customers who use Demon to power the back end of their online stores. It's not yet known what caused the outage, although Demon has had some other problems in the past.
