It's been suggested that customers experiencing problems with Virgin's broadband ADSL service may be able to solve them by tweaking the TCP/IP settings, specifically the MTU:
The optimal values appear to be a MTU of 1430, and a RWIN value of 13900.ADSLGuide has pointed out two sites where information (guides) for making such alterations can be found:

Note that this will NOT solve the dialup related complaints.
