I've been with O2 for a year and a half now, after jumping ship from the godawful over-subscribed behemoth that was Virgin Media.
I have the home broadband 'All Rounder' package, which with a £5 discount for having an O2 mobile, costs me £23 a month (was £20, but the price went up recently.) For this I consistently get around 10MB broadband (2-3 times better than the best I got with Virgin's fluctuating speeds) which is good considering I'm 2 miles from the exchange and plenty for my needs,
and no frills home phone, without having to fork out to BT for their over-priced line rental.

O2 keep you informed about service changes, billing and rare outtages (proactively - I received an apology for loss of service before I'd noticed there was one!)

Customer service is good. My broadband stopped working recently and I couldn't find the cause, so I contacted O2 customer services on their freephone number and after the standard automated selection menus I got straight through to a friendly Northern Irish support lady. I was expecting to have to wade through the usual bunch of stupid questions "have I tried turning it off and on again", but she got straight to the nub of the problem with minimal preamble. After determining my account was fine and the adsl at the exchange wasn't the issue, she traced the problem to the router and said they'd send me a new one (would I like the new upgraded model, or did I have a sentimental attachment to the older existing one? I opted for new and improved.) The call to customer services was at 5:25pm, by 10am the next day the new router had arrived by courier. Plugged it in and was back online in under 5 minutes.

Their account management website is easy to navigate and gives you plenty of info and options (compare with the labrynthine complexity and negligible accessibility of the BT account site.) Their 'My O2' connection monitoring/support software has a minimal footprint and can be uninstalled without impact on the service, but I find it comes in useful to resolve occasional connection hang-ups.

Overall I'm happy with O2, certainly a damn sight more than I ever was with Tiscali/Virgin or BT.

I was an O2 mobile customer when O2 supplied my broadband, so I was always able to call their customer service team for free.

This was useful because the phone line in the house at the time was not the best owing to some "creative" alterations to the wiring inflicted upon it by the previous inhabitants.

O2's support team were always very efficient and NOT an Indian call centre to boot. And for this, O2 deserves credit.

The connection speed was always pretty good. I don't think they provided many if any other services, not that it bothered me.

Would recommend.

I have had terrible trouble cancelling Broadband with Sky having cancelled with them following a series of overcharges which were never resolved. For the third time I have been charged for the service after cancelling. Although the Broadband itself was pretty good - the customer services are woeful.Avoid at all costs.

After having issues with another company and Openreach (Openreach cancelled an engineer visit twice), a friend pointed out that Sky had LLU on my local exchange, and you don't need TV to get the broadband. I had a word with them through an online chat system in which they answered all my questions, so I figured I would give them a go. The online registration process was very simple and allows you to track the status of your order. The installation date they gave me was spot on, and they even texted me to let me know the line & broadband were active. Generally I've found their staff to be very helpful, and the speeds are well within the range they estimated. The best thing is the price - by far cheaper than the ISP I was going to use (£10 installation!), and the router comes free.

Title: Try it!
I didn't think much of Sky for years. But after trying the services they provided, they aint so bad! give them a try. Not the best but no body really is... The speed was as expected and had no problems with contacting Sky with any queries. They won't disappoint.

Title: Speed drop
When I first joined o2 I was getting between 14 and 15meg download, I live within two miles of the exchange and just recently my speed has dropped to between 5 and 8 meg download speed.

Went online chat with an o2 advisor who said my router was continually disconnecting, he also said he could find no other problems so a new router would be sent out to me and will arrive in 48hrs, now that service.

Will update this review if the router solves my speed problems.

EDIT: New router arrived, still low speeds.

XILO provided excellent service, but at a cost. When my speeds started to drop (not in a major way) I started to look around for another provider. When I found out that Sky and Talk Talk had LLU enabled my local exchange and I had recently installed SKY HD I thought the price quoted for the `full Sky package` was hard to refuse.

With the increase in speed, saving money each month and truly unlimited service. I'm very happy and can recommend it if you're on a LLU connection.

But watch out for one issue, in my opinion very unfair to the end user. When I switched over to SKY, I requested and received a MAC code, I made a point of phoning SKY to make sure they had received it. XILO informed me that unless the MAC code was used, the service would end up being a cease NOT migration, and I would receive a £30.00 `termination charge`. Sky failed to use the MAC, no amount of e-mails or phone calls to both SKY and XILO could sort it out. The Ofcom should look at this matter. Otherwise very happy with SKY.

After being with Xilo on ADSL Max for almost 2 years (moved from Sky Connect within the 14 day period), moved back to Sky after they updated our exchange to LLU. What a difference to the Connect service :-)

Since moving to Sky LLU, after the first 3 days of DLM at 4Mb, the connection has been great. Just switched onto the Gamer Profile to reduce the latency. Currently running at 18Mb and the ping speed is only slightly slower than with Xilo.

The increase in speed, saving money each month and truly unlimited service, no traffic management, no limits. I'm very happy and can recommend it if you're on a LLU connection.

Title: Sky BB
SkyBB can be very slow. On the Connect 8Meg service I got 105K. I was promised LLU by the start of 2008, but now told it will not be comming to my exchange!

Still slow but with slight improvment since fitting iPlate (£7.00)

Now switched to Plusnet ADSL2+ - great!!
