Title: Vispa ISP
I have been a Vispa Subscriber since August 2009.I have had contracts with 'major players' in the past and have consistantly had issues with speed, continuity and the biggest bugbear of them all, Customer Service.

Since August 2009, none of these issues have arisen. Outages are promptly dealt with. The Technical Support is excellent. The out of hours support, is unfortunately, by email only.
For some this might be an issue. My experience is again, that issues are dealt with promptly.

Yes, they have there teething troubles but they are resolved in a satisfactory manner and within a reasonable timeframe.

If your experience with BT, TalkTalk, Tiscali or any of the other so-called big names has been disappointing to say the least, then I would suggest you give Vispa a try. It is more expensive than any of the providers mentioned but, I think you'll find that extra cost is justified.

Ian Arnold.

I have been with Vispa since the days of dial & have always been VERY happy to be with one of the so called smaller ISP's. They offer great value for money, friendly tech support & an all round great internet experience. Yes like any growing organisation they have had a few teething problems but are willing to resolve any issues quickly & without a fuss. I have had no issues with speed & appreciate the fact that they DON'T OFFER really cheap unlimited usage packages, as all who have done so end up ruining the network for the "normal user".

All in all excellent support, great value for money & I would recommend them if you are looking to change from one of those other ISP's where you are confronted by scripted replies from Indian call centres or have your speed throttled when you occasionally break your usage cap !!!

Well i said i would update my review if things changed so here goes.

Since Vispa carried out upgrades on the 24th December 2009 things have changed massively. My pings are as low as 24ms and my speedtests are at the max 8mb all day every day.Thier fair usage is excellent with 50gb peak alone so this gives me everything i need as a fussy gamer and medium downloader.I dont use over 100gb in any month so there wont be any issues with them that i forsee now.

At £34pm for the premium ADSL this was the best i could find as the only similar was zen and fast who wanted £50 for the same package with less GB per month.

My only grpe is im having iplayer problems with hd even though my speeds are at 7mb so i thought vispa was traffic shaping, but ive been assured my Vispa that this is not the case and there is no traffic shaping of any kind. They are taking every measure to help me with this and BT are due to check the Interlaving o nthe line tomorrow.

My billing was also messed up but again James Omerod and Vispa have sorted this for me and made a goodwill gesture so overall im suprised and happy they took the time to phone and see how let down i was before.

Well done long may it continue. The review has a low value score but this is BT fault as they offer 24mb cheaper than 8mb :(

I've been a customer since I started using Vispa dial-up in early 2001. I've had ADSL with them since 2003. After December 2009 I can honestly say that I can't wait to be free from what has become an excuse for an ISP. Why?

For one thing, during December my connection was so slow and unreliable that I was stuck with using dial-up instead. To quote Managing Director James Omerod when replying to a customer who was speaking out about the same issue:

"Many thanks for spitting your dummy out!

If you would have spoken to our customer support, we would have told you that our centrals are running at maximum capacity and that our new BT host link was commissioned today and being brought into services on 24th December 2009..."

"All other customers who have noticed the loss in speeds have been perfectly happy and accepted that it will be back to normal in one week's time. At least we have done something about it and ordered more capacity."

First of all, as one of these customers Omerod mentions, I was *NOT* happy that the service I was paying for had become unusable. Just because I did not make a complaint to Vispa did *not* mean that I was "happy" about paying for a service that for a protracted period of time I could not use.

And this brings me onto my next point. Why didn't I complain? Well, take a look at Omerod's words. "Many thanks for spitting your dummy out!" What kind of MD of what kind of company speaks to its customers with such blatant contempt?

As if all this were not enough, on Christmas Eve I discovered that Vispa had taken THREE payments in December! They recharged me for the month of October and November! When I e-mailed billing to ask what the heck was going on I got this reply:

These invoices have previously been paid, our system has reset itself and set them to unpaid. Please advise if you have paid these again and we will refund accordingly.

Not only did I receive no e-mail notification of Vispa having taken extra payments, but they also do not appear on my transactions history on Vispa's own website. So, Vispa have taken my money with no receipt or record anywhere but on my own bank statement! I feel like i've been mugged!

This issue is still ongoing with Vispa having asked me to send them my bank statements! God knows when I'll get my money back. What a nice Christmas present on top of having to pay for the month of December when for most of it the service was so poor that I could not even use it!

What an utter, utter shambles of an excuse for an ISP. Save yourself a lot of worry and headaches and find a *competent* ISP.

Vispa's recent central pipe upgrade has made a big improvement - speeds are back to what they have always been and pings are back to less than 30ms !!!

Technical support was informative as always and kept me updated with progress on the install of their new central and all hapened when they said it would !

These guys really are one of the better more genuine ISP's out there and their "honesty is the best policy" is what keeps me as a customer. Although I've only been with Vispa for 6 months I can see many happy years ahead.

Keep up the good work Vispa & Merry Christmas!

Vispa were recently selected as replacement internet provider for Lawrenny Village in Pembrokeshire. This followed the winding up of our previous provider.
Until Vispa took over we had enjoyed good internet access, my own service at just below 4Mb. The village uses 3 exchange lines into a wireless transmitter to bridge the gap that BT will not fill across the local river.
Once Vispa took over, the service became unreliable and very, very slow much of the time. They seemed unable to cope with the local arrangements or to provide satisfactory explanations for the failures.
Poor performance.

Title: Very poor
The reality of life under Vispa jars violently with the review below this. I can only assume the musicmaker's review was either incorrectly filed or this reviewer's previous ISP was a little known sideline business of the Marx brothers. A third possibility is of course that the review is not entirely objective...

We run a vital community broadband scheme in West Wales, funded in part by the government and run by the community. We were sad to lose Upstream last month and sadder still when we realised what a disastrous move we'd made switching to Vispa.

They have failed to provide the service for our mlppp bonding having said they could, and are unable to explain why despite our providing them all the help they clearly needed. We are now down to one line.

They cited loss of their entire email system for not replying to emails despite having our phone numbers. They say say with their email system down they cannot even investigate the problems. Their email system was 'down' for 36 hours and counting by the time I called. How does a national internet service provider itself fall off the internet? It's almost hilarious.

Meanwhile their website said it was down for routine maintenance and would be back up 'this morning'... and that was at 5pm.

Overall their response has been to blame everything but themselves and they certainly have a policy of never apologise...

I cannot stress enough how disappointed the entire community is this Christmas. A lot of effort has gone into putting this remote village on an equal footing with other better connected places... Only to be deserted by a company that is clearly incapable of handling the number of customers it has.

I can provide a full catalogue of details for those who need them. I also believe in the right to reply. So, if Vispa would like to put their side can I suggest they do so by proving a reasonable service in the next few days and then we shall of course update this review. In summary, until they control their growth and get on top of their service for goodness sake look elsewhere. Adrian. Lawrenny Broadband Association.

Abd the reason? I can't describe how good this ISP is!! Switched me on in double quick time from my old (and absolutely dreadful) ISP. I was having problems with speed and connecting to the internet with them AND my ISP before them. Switched to Vispa and within 1 day I was online and double my previous speeds. Whenever I have spoken to them, I have been treat like a human being and understood, although I have only had to phone them a few times. I shall be sticking with these guys for many many years to come! Thank you for helping me trust ISP's again.

Have been with Vispa for nearly 3 years and for much of that have had no problems. In the last 6 months however speed has been very variable (some sites just too slow to get), tech support has gone from excellent to rather ordinary (and cant even spell properly)and my web pages are up and down like the proverbial....

I guess there has been a change of mgt, staff or their suppliers and its starting to look like shoddy service and poor value for money.

They certainly appear to lack the tech ability to be a top ISP any longer. I would be surprised if they stay in the top 10 for long.

I have requested a MAC and plan to get out befor its too late.

Don't think we'll ever leave though. I'm not in area where I can get the 20mb speed packages, and I don't think I'll find anything better than Vispa. Got to echo the other comments - it's all about the service you get from them. You can call up, talk to a human being, and get helpful replies. They've helped talk me through router set ups and the like, and god knows what else.

On the connection side, it just works. Plain and simple. Had outages at the exchange before, but nothing I can remember which had Vispa's name on it. Well worth it.
