Title: Excellent First Impressions
Home 25GB Option

A seamless migration to Xilo.

Firstly, my decision to migrate from AOL after 13 years was made on the reviews I read on this site. So I hope all you guys are right!

Having got my MAC Code from my AOL last Thursday, I signed up immediately with Xilo and was advised my broadband line would be "live" at some point on the Tuesday. In the intervening period, I also received an email with my new log in details, router settings and IP address.

On the Tuesday, I fired up my PC before going to work about 7.40am and to my great surprise received an email to say my connection had now been activated :-) It only took a couple of minutes to re-program my router with the new user details and settings, hit "Connect" and Hey Presto - I was up and running!

I left my PC on and went to work, where I was able to connect to it using LogMeIn and monitor my download speeds at various times during the day.

I was pleasantly surprised to be hitting speeds of 5.6mb - 5.8mb from my BT exchange 8mb line. What I DIDN'T expect though, was STILL to be getting speeds of over 5mb during peak evening hours, especially on a "bad telly" night when more people usually log on the net and slow it down.

Even during the best times of the "real AOL" before Carphone Warehouse took them over, I never really got speeds much more than 3.5mb - 4mb and often around 2mb.

But since about 6 months ago when AOL/CPW/TalkTalk unceremoniously and without warning disconnected me while they migrated to their "OPAL" network, bandwidth and download speeds had dropped to an abysmal level, especially on one evening when I was getting a speed of only 384kbps. This I understand is due to AOL/CPW/TalkTalk's "traffic shaping" and "broadband throttling", so I was very interested to read that Xilo DO NOT do this.

As you can imagine I am very pleased to achieve the "new" speeds (new to me!) from Xilo. Last night my other half and I were able to watch the likes of BBC iPlayer and You Tube without huge pauses and stutters.

Also impressive is Xio's on-line "Dashboard", where once registered, you have resources like checking your download usage, raising support calls (tickets),connection history, messages audit trail, support forum and much more.

It's early days yet, but so far I am very impressed with Xilo and will probably recommend them to friends and family

David
