UK Be Broadband ISP Users Blocked from BitTorrent File Sharing Sites

Posted: 19th Jun, 2009 By: MarkJ
Customers of Be Broadband ( O2 ) have accused the UK ISP of deliberately blocking access to popular P2P BitTorrent file sharing tracker sites after several of the most popular destinations ( e.g. The Pirate Bay ) became inaccessible yesterday.

Those attempting to access such sites have instead been greeted by a "Connection Interrupted" message in their web browser, which goes on to state that the "The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again." Errors of that nature are not usually caused by an intentional block.

Happily Be Broadband has since confirmed, via a Twitter update, that the issue is not a block and has in fact been caused by a network routing issue:

Hi guys, we're not blocking sites but having routing issues on the network. Hope to have it fixed soon. Thanks :)

Customers can still get around the problem by using a proxy server or one of those 'Anonymous' browser websites, which routs your browser session through a proxy, although no further updates about the problem have been issued since yesterday.
