Analysys Mason has suggested that small businesses could save 67% (£2145 each year) off their roaming Internet access costs by switching from Wi-Fi Hotspot providers to Mobile Broadband services instead. The data estimates that each employee who travels throughout the year can accumulate Wi-Fi charges of up to £700.
Steve Hilton, Principal Analyst for Analysys Mason, said:
"Seemingly small technology expenses incurred by many employees add up quickly. In a tough economy, SMEs need to find ways to reduce costs, increase productivity and remain competitive. Taking advantage of simple technology solutions, such as mobile broadband, with payback periods of 6 months is a sound business practice."
The study claims that Mobile Broadband offers a "
very good" quality of service and performance, which does not appear to stack up well against the raft of speed and connectivity woes that we keep hearing about.
It's certainly fine for basic Internet tasks and we love using Mobile Broadband ourselves, but quality and flexibility are a tough sell. On the other hand it's hard to argue with Mobile Broadband's affordable pricing, reasonable usage allowances and wider coverage.
