The free and popular broadband internet music streaming service,
Spotify, has today announced a new (v0.4.3) "
evolution of its service" that will see music sharing between users become common. The move could also help legal music take a bigger bite out of unlawful copyright p2p file sharing by ISP customers, although it's worth remembering that music downloads which you can take away with you will still cost money.
Daniel Ek, CEO and founder of Spotify, comments:
"Today Spotify has moved a step closer to making music more connected, and realizing our dream of becoming THE music platform. We want to empower users to share and discover music in a way that hasn’t been possible up until now. It’s never been easier to enjoy music together."
One thing we really wish Spotify had is the ability to select from more individual track purchase locations. For those of us who have no desire to buy a monthly subscription, and only require single track purchase options, being limited to just a few sources can be annoying. Music sold on other sites, such as Amazon, can at times be a lot cheaper and more desirable.
