Broadband wholesaler
Murphx has today become the latest ISP to be accepted by BT to work on their 100Mbps Fibre-to-the-Premises ( FTTP / FTTH ) fibre optic broadband trials. Some 2.5m UK homes should be within reach of FTTP by the summer of 2012, although most (7.5m) will be covered by the slower 'up to' 40Mbps FTTC.
In addition murphx has also joined BT's Annex M ADSL2+ trial, which enables 'up to' 24Mbps ADSL2+ based connections to 'trade off' some of their download speed in order to benefit from an increased upload performance (2.5Mbps). Normally 1.4Mbps is about the top level of a traditional ADSL2+ line.
Director, Carl Churchill, stated:
"BT are making a significant commitment to delivering faster broadband provision across the UK, and we are proud to be enhancing our wholesale connectivity services by integrating with BT on this ground breaking project. Our participation in these trials demonstrates the strength of our ongoing relationship with BT and our shared commitment to quality and innovation."
BT based Annex M is due to be launched later this summer (2010) following successful results, with FTTP hot on its heels later in the year, claims murphx; though several new developments are already using FTTP (e.g. Ebbsfleet) as part of a wider pilot.
