ISP Orange UK (France Telecom) has issued its latest first quarter results to the end of March 2010, which shows that the provider is still shedding broadband subscribers and has dropped from 840,000 in Q4-2009 to 816,000 now (-24k). One big consolation, that drop is significantly less than the -59k seen between Q3 and Q4 2009.
It's too soon to know whether their slowing rate of decline will ultimately move back into more positive territory. Orange must be hoping that the recent deal to hand control of their broadband network over to BT (
here) will help stem the tide and possibly even turn things around.
Elsewhere it was revealed on Monday that Orange were once more planning to make another push into the UK broadband television ( IPTV ) market (
here). Lest we not forget about their current merger agreement with T-Mobile UK, which is still going through the motions. 2010 could be the year that Orange finally turns its flagging broadband and TV ambitions around.
