Business ISP Easynet Connect has announced that all its customers with an SDSL (symmetric - same speed both ways) broadband internet connection running on its network will now be guaranteed a fully un-contended (1:1) line, at no extra cost.
ISP contention ratios (e.g. 50:1, 20:1, 5:1 etc.) are a method of describing the number of people who share the same bandwidth as you. On SDSL, which offers stable maximum leased-line style speed of 2Mbps in both directions, the change means that customers will not have to share any of their upload or download capacity with other users.
Chris Stening, MD of Easynet Connect, explains:
"We have been able to make this improvement to our SDSL service at no extra cost or inconvenience to our customers because of the continual investment we have made in our core network over time.
With the largest SDSL footprint in the UK, we offer SDSL to over 70% of all SMEs in the UK – more than any other provider. By removing the contention on these connections, we are reaffirming our commitment to delivering the highest quality internet connectivity for UK businesses.
While some providers may offer low-cost SDSL connections, few can promise that their bandwidth will be guaranteed, unlimited and backed up by a service level agreement as robust as ours."
The process of upgrading existing SDSL customers has been completed and all lines are now un-contended. Easynet Connect SDSL can also be easily upgraded to its SDSL-based SureStream service, which offers symmetrical and un-contended speeds of up to 8Mbps.
