Customers on the Easynet broadband platform, which appears to have included at least some Sky Broadband UK (BSkyB) users (albeit only for a few minutes), suffered a serious
nationwide outage earlier this morning.
Sadly other parts of Easynet's network have taken several hours to restore, yet the ISP claims that most of the affected connections should now have been returned to normal operation. Sadly some are still experiencing problems.
Easynet Status Update (8:45am)We are currently experiencing a nationwide outage affecting all connections.
This message should be updated shortly.
[17/11/2010 10:21:29]UPDATE: Connections are now being restored, some customers may still experience some intermittency.
This is still being worked on and we hope to have a confirmed resolution shortly.
[17/11/2010 12:27:28]Connectivity to our LLU network has been resolved however Option 4 customers and 8 Meg Surestream customers remain affected because of an issue with the interlink to our authentication servers.
This problem is still under investigation.
It's unclear what has caused the downtime, although some sources are suggesting that a failed
Radius (authentication) server could be to blame.
UPDATE 18th November 2010Easynet has blamed the problem on a router crash, which followed a failed update procedure. A further software patch has since been applied to rectify the problem.
