Research firm
YouGov and broadband measurement specialist
Epitiro have announced their intention to publish '
The Broadband Report', which they claim will be the UK's "
first online analysis of both consumer satisfaction and actual service levels" with ISP performance and connection speeds.
The results will be produced from a "
consumer panel" of YouGov's
300,000 members, each of which will apparently have a copy of Epitiro's broadband measurement software installed. The software automatically connects to the internet and tests broadband services for speed and reliability, and also analyses the performance of popular applications.
Gavin Johns, CEO of Epitiro, said:
"Our ISP clients have long sought after a single source that summarises consumer experience and satisfaction. Together with YouGov’s extensive consumer panel and market research expertise we’re aiming to give UK operators real-time intelligence on virtually every ISP."
It's understood that the data will, at least initial, only be made available to ISPs through a web portal which will provide both the raw data as well as graphical analysis of performance. The first industry consultation and preview will occur at
Epitiro’s Customer Day, Nov 24th, London. The Broadband Report itself will be available in the
first quarter of 2011.
The report will at first focus on fixed line broadband services, although Epitiro and YouGov are already collaborating on a UK Mobile Broadband analysis project for Ofcom, which will publish a public report in early 2011 (
