Sky ( Sky Broadband ) is to close its legal music downloading service, Sky Songs, due to a lack of customer interest. The product had originally been designed to help dissuade Sky's ISP customers from becoming involved in alternative "illegal" (unlawful) copyright file sharing (P2P) activity.

The OECD has updated has its broadband statistics with data covering the period to June 2010. The OECD is now home to 294m fixed broadband subscriptions, with the UK ranking 5th on a total of 18,827,700.

Ofcom has published its final Wholesale Broadband Access (WBA) market review conclusions, which found effective competition in almost 80% of the country's broadband market. However it has proposed new price controls for areas where this is not the case, which could push some UK ISP prices up.

UK ISP BT has announced new plans to trial a new 1Gbps fibre optic FTTP broadband service in Kesgrave (Suffolk, UK). BT also pledged to extend their "super-fast" 40Mbps FTTC service to 40 new rural market towns and have pledged to go further in the future.

Ofcom's seventh annual Communications Market Report 2010 has revealeds that the total broadband UK uptake (mobile and fixed line) has risen by just +3% from 68% in 2009 to 71% in 2010, which compares with a growth of +10% between 2008 and 2009.
