A new report published by the UK Space Agency today aims to promote the advantages of satellite broadband technology for delivering internet access into remote communities. It also calls upon the government to offer setup subsidies, which would off-set the high kit and installation costs, for such locations.

A UK telecoms supplier, O-bit Telecom, has announced that it will continue to trade under its own brand and business values. The firm was acquired by the Daisy Group earlier this year, although some of their channel customers promptly expressed "strong concerns" over the impact of this and a potential for eroded choice.

Europe could benefit from even faster Mobile Broadband services if it harmonised frequencies in the 1.4GHz radio spectrum band. According to a UK consultancy firm, Plum Consulting, the continent could also rake in an extra GBP47.5bn from such a move.

BT has announced the next batch of 66 UK telephone exchange upgrades to support its new superfast broadband ISP technologies, most of which will take place towards the end of 2011 and into 2012. The operator has also revealed a new trial of "white space" / Ultra High Frequency (UHF) based wireless internet access technology on the Isle of Bute.

BT has upgraded an additional 5 telephone exchanges in the UK to support its expensive Broadband Enabling Technology (BET) solution. BET can deliver internet speeds of 2Mbps (Megabits per second) to remote rural homes and businesses that reside up to 12km away from their local telephone exchange.

Media giant BSkyB ( Sky Broadband ) has announced the launch of its new Sky Go service in the UK, which will combine its online broadband TV Sky Player service with their Sky Mobile TV platform. Existing customers will be given free access to the service, which will work on both PC's and mobile devices.

A new ISPreview.co.uk survey of 685 internet users in the United Kingdom (UK) has revealed that 93.5 Percent would be "Angry" if their broadband provider began limiting access to popular online content or services (e.g. Skype, YouTube etc.) and most of those would switch ISP in order to avoid it.
