Residents and businesses of the
Trent Valley area in rural
North Lincolnshire will be pleased to learn that they can now access wireless ( Wi-Fi ) broadband speeds of up to 10Mbps. The service has been deployed by a little known private UK ISP called
LINPOP, which is backed by the international
Tag Guard Ltd. security organisation.
LINPOP claims that its service covers rural villages and farming areas in a
10 mile radius from where their masts are located;
Hemswell Cliff Business Park and the newly acquired
Ingham Cliff site.
Dr Vaughan Kitchin, Technical Director, told ISPreview.co.uk:
"Due to the total inability of any existing broadband service provider to provide the service need for our 24/7 Tag Guard Control Centre, at Hemswell Cliff, over the last 6 years, we decided to back the major investment to provide this unique service to our building, and In the process help other businesses struggling with the appalling broadband in the area.
We are developing plans to extend this service beyond the initial area, as interest and demand rises, to potentially cover most of Lincolnshire, which seems to be omitted from any national broadband supply plans."
Prices tend to start at £29.95 per month for a 10Mbps (1Mbps upload) speed service, which is described as being "
far superior" to BT and suitable for "
general web-browsing, video and i-player streaming". The
contention ratio of 150:1 appears to be high for such a service.
Oddly LINPOP claims that this contention is lower than the "
over 250:1" used by "
all other providers". Sadly the ISP does not offer any form of effective comparison, which makes their claim difficult to judge.
As usual an array of faster, more flexible and more expensive package choices are also available.
