Orange UK (
Everything Everywhere) has reported its latest Q2-2011 financial results, which revealed another decline in their fixed line internet (
Home Broadband) ISP subscriber base from 726,000 in Q1-2011 to
716,000 now. Crucially the operator lost significantly less than in the previous quarters.
History of Orange's Home Broadband Subscriber Bleed
Q4-2010 770,000 (-25,000 from 795k in Q3-2010)
Q1-2011 726,000 (-44,000 from Q4-2010)
Q2-2011 716,000 (-10,000 from Q1-2011)
Readers may recall that Orange had devised "
plans to turnaround the fixed BB business" during their Q4-2010 results (
here) and boldly anticipated a
return to customer growth in this area from mid-year, which sadly hasn't happened. But they are getting closer.
Tom Alexander, CEO of Everything Everywhere, said:
"The first half of 2011 was a period of good progress for Everything Everywhere. Leveraging our unique strengths and market leadership, we are delivering on our strategic plan set out in September 2010 and are ahead of plan with our synergy capture. We are investing in building the best network experience for our customers and in creating platforms for growth."
Orange has recently begun a new drive to better promote its Home Broadband and Phone services, while it also managed to contradict many other studies by coming out on top in Ofcom's recent test of consumer broadband ISP satisfaction (
here). Could the tide finally be changing for Orange? Find out next quarter.
