Broadband ISP Eclipse Internet is celebrating today after it successfully campaigned to have BT upgrade the
Exeter Castle telephone exchange, which
covers 900 postcode areas, with its latest 'up to' 40Mbps FTTC based superfast broadband technology.
Exeter Castle was the one of five telephone exchanges submitted by the ISP to BTOpenreach's exchange nomination scheme last November 2010 (
here). In total Eclipse collected
7,000 votes and the fruits of that effort have now begun to show.
Clodagh Murphy, Director of Eclipse Internet, said:
"We are very excited about the enabling of the Exeter Castle exchange and the significance for our many residential and business customers living within the areas of the city that this serves. We have already started receiving calls from a number of people wondering how they can get fibre broadband to their home or business. Our aim is to deliver the service within 10 days of a customer placing an order."
Eclipse recently launched its own range of
Home FTTC services, which all start with a base package (free router + 10GB usage allowance and unlimited off-peak) that costs from just
£21.50 inc. VAT per month and rises in price when you select a bigger usage allowance.
Customers who want a bigger allowance need to add an extra +£3 per month to increase the cap up to 20GB (total price £24.50), then £8 for 50GB (total £29.50), +£15.50 for 100GB (total £37) and the unlimited option is an extra +£37.50 (total £56).
It's important to point out that the Exeter Castle upgrade will also benefit any other FTTC supporting ISPs, such as BT-Infinity and TalkTalk .
