The rural UK village of
Wombleton (
North Yorkshire), and any surrounding areas, look set to benefit from a new superfast broadband service after
I Love Broadband (
LN Communications), an oddly named wireless ISP, today confirmed the expansion of its services into the area (where existing speeds tend to be sub-1Mbps).
ILB was created in 2010 as a trading style of LN Communications. It aims to provide next generation broadband using a combination of fibre and wireless ( Wi-Fi ) methods to "
reach out to the heart of rural and remote communities across the country". Its primary focus is in
Yorkshire and, to a lesser extent (for now),
Lincolnshire.
The service has been slowly expanding since it was quietly launched last year. Home customers are able to benefit from download speeds of up to
50Mbps (Megabits per second), although packages start at just £12.99 per month for a 5Mbps symmetric service (10GB usage allowance).
At the time of writing it remains unclear precisely when the service in Wombleton, which we do not believe to be the ancestral home of "The Wombles" (tm), will go live. ILB's website suggests that it is already available, although officially the ISP merely states that it is "
coming".
UPDATE 22nd November 2011We've received a bit of additional information from ILB. The service does indeed already cover Wombleton, although "coming" is only mentioned because local home/business installations have yet to take place (they will do over the next few weeks).
In fact ILB already has coverage throughout that
Vale of Pickering area and about 3000 sq Km in total.
