Spectrum Interactive, a UK communications provider, has announced that diners at
380 restaurants belonging to
Whitbread (i.e.
Beefeater,
Table Table,
Brewers Fayre and
Taybarns) will soon be able to get "
totally free" Wi-Fi wireless internet access alongside their meals.
The announcement comes shortly after Spectrum Interactive announced a similar deal with the national
Premier Inn hotel chain last week (
here).
Siobhan Fagan, Whitbread's Head of Customer and Business Solutions, said:
"Spectrum's relationship with Whitbread made it the obvious choice for Wi-Fi across our busy restaurant brands. For some years we have worked closely with the Spectrum team, most recently for the roll-out of a digital signage solution to around 100 Brewers Fayre and Beefeater locations."
Simon Alberga, Executive Chairman of Spectrum Interactive, said:
"In the same way that consumers have come to take Wi-Fi access for granted in hotels, increasingly they are now expecting it in restaurants and other retail establishments.
Beefeater, Table-Table, Brewers Fayre and Taybarns are among the savviest brands that recognise the value in providing Wi-Fi for customers'. Not only does its availability help attract and retain business, but it can also provide customer intelligence invaluable to the business."
The Spectrum solution also includes data capture functionality that will allegedly help provide Beefeater, Table Table, Brewers Fayre and Taybarns with "
enhanced customer insight", which really means "
tailored marketing campaigns".
Unfortunately Spectrum, whose Wi-Fi network apparently handles over
1 million user sessions every month, does not provide any timetable for its deployment of the new service.
