The Suffolk County Council (SCC) has optimistically predicted that its local plan, which aims to make superfast broadband ISP speeds of 100Mbps available to everyone in the region by 2020 (shared EU target), could result in a £5bn boost to the local economy.

Some of BT’s superfast broadband (BTInfinity) customers are reporting that an intermittent bug with either their HomeHub 3 (HH3) router or VDSL modem device is causing service speeds to crash, in many cases falling from upwards of 70Mbps (Megabits per second) to sub-1Mbps levels.

The shareholders of European communications provider Vodafone have voted 99% in favour of the £1.044 Billion deal (38p per share) to buy telecoms giant Cable & Wireless Worldwide (CWW), which gives the operator plenty of new capacity and room to grow both its existing fixed line and future mobile services.

The European Commission (EC) has released its annual 2012 Digital Agenda Scoreboard, which assesses the progress towards Europe’s broadband delivery targets. It found that just 5.5% of UK lines have adopted a superfast broadband ISP service that can deliver download speeds of 30Mbps+ (EU average 8.5%).

The UK Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) has revealed the finalists for its 2012 Internet Hero and Internet Villain gongs at their forthcoming 14th annual awards. The two categories seek to identify individuals or organisations that have either done the most or least to help the wider ISP industry.
