The Conservative MP for Boston and Skegness, Matt Warman, has accused ISPs of being “complicit in fraud” for the way they advertise broadband speeds in the United Kingdom and has called a Westminster Hall event to debate the issue at 4.30pm tomorrow. He also wants “fibre” to only mean FTTP/H ISPs.

The latest independently calculated coverage data has estimated that fixed line “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) networks are now available to order at 92.5% of homes and businesses across the United Kingdom. Plus “ultrafast” (100Mbps+) services are available to 51.2%.

A new report from techUK, which is an industry group for many of the United Kingdom’s key technology companies, has proposed five recommendations that Ofcom and the Government should adopt in order to make the upgrade to future ultrafast 5G Mobile technology a success.

Metronet UK, which has built its own hybrid fibre optic and wireless data network in several urban areas around the United Kingdom, has today acquired rival ISP Venus Business Communications. Venus operates a 10Gbps Dark Fibre network that covers “all of central London and the City“.
