Homes and businesses near Waitrose in the market town of Otley (Leeds) could suffer over a month of unstable broadband connectivity after a lorry crashed into one of Openreach’s (BT) street cabinets. The cabinet was promptly replaced but problems with the power supply remain.

A string of consumer complaints have today prompted Ofcom to launch a probe into Virgin Media’s contract cancellations policy, which will examine whether or not the cable broadband, phone and TV provider has been playing fair when applying Early Termination Charges.

Ofcom’s latest Q1 2017 study of UK consumer complaints about fixed line Broadband, Phone, Pay TV and Mobile services has praised Sky (Sky Broadband) for receiving the fewest gripes. Meanwhile BT, TalkTalk and Vodafone are highlighted for attracting the most complaints.

Mobile operator 1pMobile (MVNO) has had a Website and Facebook advert for their service banned by the Advertising Standards Authority after they failed to prove that their service was really the “UK’s cheapest pre-pay tariff” or the “most flexible“.

The Connecting Devon and Somerset project in England has extended the deadline for approval of vouchers under their rural subsidy scheme, which offers up to £500 per property to help those stuck in sub-2Mbps broadband areas to get a 10Mbps or faster connection.
