The High Court in London has today approved a request by Liberty, a human rights group, to challenge part of the Government’s controversial Internet surveillance powers in the new Investigatory Powers Act. The effort is being supported by £53,313 raised via crowd-funding.

A further 1,300 homes and businesses in Staffordshire (England) are due to be covered by Openreach’s (BT) “superfast fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) network after the state aid fuelled Superfast Staffordshire project received a funding boost of £1.7 million.

The Superfast Essex project in England has announced the award of their £24m Phase 3 “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) roll-out contract to Gigaclear and BT, which should extend the network to a further 24,000 premises and push local coverage to around 97% by December 2019.

Internet traffic prioritisation has been completely removed from Plusnet’s residential broadband service(s), which is because the ISP claims to have been “investing heavily in its network” and as a result their platform now has enough “capacity and resilience” that prioritisation is no longer needed.
