The English Premier League has won a new High Court Order in London this week that will require broadband ISPs in the United Kingdom to block servers that are hosting “illegal streams” of its football matches, specifically those involving the entire 2017/18 Premier League season.

The Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has commissioned consultancy firm ekosgen to conduct a review of their Community Broadband Scotland (CBS) initiative, which has been running for five years and provides public investment to help setup new broadband networks in very remote rural areas.

Fibre optic developer Cityfibre has today announced that they’re teaming up with internet service provider NGC Networks in order to support a 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premise (FTTP) based broadband and Ethernet network in the West Yorkshire city of Wakefield.

The UK telecoms regulator has today proposed to free up an extra 20MHz notch of radio spectrum in the 5.8GHz band, which is currently used for road tolling systems, so that it can be harnessed to boost the speed of existing outdoor Broadband Fixed Wireless Access (BFWA) providers.

The B4RN for Casterton project has completed the primary roll-out of their 1Gbps community built and funded fibre optic (FTTP/H) broadband network to the rural Cumbria village of Casterton and several surrounding areas, which was supported by £91,700 of local funding.

The latest H1 2017 report from RootMetrics has revealed the 4G mobile performance and availability of O2, Three UK, Vodafone and EE across England, Wales, Scotland and N.Ireland. Overall EE takes the crown for Mobile Broadband speed and coverage, while Three UK won for reliability and calls.

Sky UK and Ireland (Sky Broadband) has today reported their results for the first half of 2017, which completely hides their broadband subscriber figures from public view (usually a bad sign) but does at least report that take-up of their FTTC based “fibre broadband” service has increased to 27%.
