The Satellite and Terrestrial Network for 5G (SaT5G) project, which is supported by 16 major operators like BT, Avanti, SES etc. and £7.3 million (€8.3m) via the EU’s Horizon 2020 5G Research & Innovation contract, has begun work to integrate Satellite and future 5G Mobile networks.

Homes and businesses near Waitrose in the market town of Otley (Leeds) could suffer over a month of unstable broadband connectivity after a lorry crashed into one of Openreach’s (BT) street cabinets. The cabinet was promptly replaced but problems with the power supply remain.

Consumer magazine Which? has today published the results of a new survey that reveals the fastest and slowest local authorities across the United Kingdom by broadband download speed (median). The Orkney Islands (6.3Mbps) are by far the slowest and Tamworth is the fastest (30.4Mbps).

A pub called ‘The Bull‘ in Ditchling, which is situated a few miles from the East Sussex town of Lewes and won the 2016 Great British Pub Awards, has helped 300 local homes and businesses to access FTTC based “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) by donating a section of their private car park to Openreach.

Openreach (BT) has today announced their intention to run a national pilot of the new Harmonised Repair service, which will begin on 24th July 2017 and run for 12 months with up to 500,000 broadband and phone lines of various different types (WLR, LLU, FTTC, FTTP and SoGEA).
