BT Group Shares Suffer Dramatic Fall After “improper” Italian Accounting

Billions of pounds have been wiped off BT Group’s share price this morning (currently trading at 310p, down by nearly 19% from 382p yesterday) after the operator’s business in Italy was hit by an “improper accounting practices” fiasco (i.e. they’ve overstated their earnings by £530m).

Openreach (BT) has informed Ethernet offering ISPs that they intend to run a provision trial of their new Dark Fibre Access (DFA) product between August and September 2017, which is right before it’s officially due to launch on 1st October 2017.

Cityfibre has announced that their 1Gbps capable fibre optic (FTTP) broadband network in the city of Aberdeen (Aberdeen Core), which is already being used to connect local businesses, is being extended to connect over 100 public buildings (schools, libraries etc.).

Budget ISP Plusnet has today slashed the prices of their unlimited ‘up to’ 38Mbps and 76Mbps “Fibre” (FTTC) based superfast broadband packages for the first 18 months of service, which reduces the monthly pricing (inc. Line Rental) to just £23 and £28 respectively for new customers.

UPDATE Ofcom UK Fine EE £2.7m for Overcharging 40,000 Mobile Customers

The telecoms regulator has today hit Mobile Network Operator EE (BT) with a fine of £2.7 million after they were found to have overcharged around 40,000 subscribers for calls to the company’s own “150” customer services number. It’s not the first time EE has had to pay off an Ofcom fine.

The state aid supported CSW Broadband project has confirmed that £2m in clawback is set to be reinvested by BT (Openreach) into the local roll-out of “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) connectivity, which means that an additional 3,500 premises in Warwickshire will soon gain access.
