Openreach Slash FTTP Broadband Prices for More New Build Homes

Openreach (BT) has announced that they will drop the price of their 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based ultrafast broadband ISP network infrastructure by 75% for new homes in the UK (focus on smaller developers), which aims to “encourage house builders to provide all new homes with full fibre“.

The cries of “oh no, not another one!” can already be heard today as the Superfast Berkshire project in England joins others in confirming that their roll-out of fibre-based broadband ISP networks – via both Gigaclear and Openreach (BT) – will face a significant delay in the county (affecting both Phase 2 and 3 contracts).

Vodafone Switches On First UK Full 5G Trial via Commercial Network

Vodafone today claims to have become the “first to switch on” a full 5G service over a commercial network in Salford, Greater Manchester. This will be followed by roll-outs in Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Liverpool and London by December 2018. Cornwall, the Lake District and Scottish Highlands will follow.

BT Group Picks Philip Jansen to Replace Gavin Patterson as CEO

After a lengthy hunt the UK telecoms giant, BT, has finally found a replacement for their outgoing Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Gavin Patterson, in the form of ex-Worldpay co-chief, Philip Jansen (age 51). Patterson will continue to serve as CEO until 31st January 2019.

Mobile Network Operator EE UK Sees Surge in IPv6 Deployment

The latest batch of IPv6 network operator measurements has revealed that take-up of the “new” internet protocol (IP) addressing standard has sky-rocketed on EE (AS12576) since September 2018, going from a deployment percentage of 10% to 28.05% over several short weeks.
