The Welsh Government has today confirmed that it will be making a statement on the new “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) contract next week, which could be worth up to £200m and tentatively aims to reach an additional 88,000 premises in poorly served areas. A strong focus on “full fibre” (FTTP) connectivity is expected.

The Independent Networks Co-operative Association (INCA) has today announced a shortlist of 16 finalists for their forthcoming inaugural awards event (The INCAs), which aims to recognise and celebrate the best broadband alternative network providers (altnets) from across the United Kingdom.

The latest batch of independent data has revealed the top 25 local authorities across the United Kingdom with the highest availability of ultrafast “full fibre” (FTTP / FTTH) broadband ISP connectivity and their change since 2017. Locations such as Hull, the East Riding of Yorkshire and Cornwall come top.

Avanti, which operates the HYLAS Satellite broadband network, has claimed that a lack of “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) in the County of Cornwall (England) is “costing jobs and holding back new start-ups,” with an estimated 6,500 Cornish businesses allegedly still being stuck in the economic slow lane (Council figures).

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned a second Vodafone TV advert featuring actor Martin Freeman, which occurred after 11 complainants said the promotion “misleadingly” implied that Mobile customers could leave their contract at any time. Instead they could only do so within the first 30 days of service.
