Hull-based UK broadband ISP KCOM has followed last month’s sale of their off-net Eclipse Internet base (here), which went to the Global 4 Group, by selling off its national ICT business to Nasstar, which is an established managed services specialist provider.

Technology firm Cisco has today published their UK Broadband Index, which surveyed 2,000 employees across the country to get their take on the current standard of home internet connectivity. Overall, 70% want to see the economic recovery post-COVID19 being built on better internet access, and 55% believe “broadband should be free.“

Mobile operator giffgaff has announced that they’re boosting the data (mobile broadband) allowances on some of their existing 4G and ultrafast 5G plans, which will apply to both new and existing customers. For example, their £12 per month “goodybag” will grow from 10GB to 12GB at no extra cost.

Full fibre broadband ISP Hyperoptic UK has secured new partnership agreements with Birmingham Council and the City of Wolverhampton Council in the West Midlands of England. The move will enable them to expand their gigabit-capable network to cover tens of thousands of additional homes in both cities.

Alternative broadband ISP Zzoomm, which is deploying a 10Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to 1 million UK homes by the end of 2025, has apologised to their customers in the Oxfordshire town of Henley-on-Thames after a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) assault disrupted their connectivity.

Opensignal, which uses crowd-sourced data to benchmark mobile networks, has found that 5G connected users in 20 of the leading markets for the new mobile broadband tech see much greater mobile data usage than 4G users. The biggest increase was in Japan (2.7x), while the UK scores 2.0x and Ireland came last on 1.2x.
