The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched a deeper Phase 2 investigation to examine any “competition concerns” that may surround the £8.6bn (€10 billion) sale of CK Hutchison Holdings (Three UK) interests in European tower assets and businesses to Spanish company Cellnex.

Some customers of Sky Broadband’s service, particularly those in Norfolk, Suffolk, Bedfordshire and around Sheffield (South Yorkshire), are starting to see their internet and phone connections return to normal after an unspecified service disruption struck earlier this morning.

The Independent Networks Co-operative Association (INCA), which represents alternative broadband networks (AltNet), has seen its UK membership balloon skywards after gaining 32 members in 2021 so far. The growth reflects a surge in new AltNets, many of which are building their own Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) infrastructure.

Netomnia, which is working to make their 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network available to 1 million UK premises by 2024 (here and here), are facing complaints in a number of their build areas after residents began objecting to the erection of new telegraph poles “without their knowledge or consent.”

A complaint by rival mobile operator EE (BT) has prompted the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) to ban several of Vodafone’s adverts after they “misleadingly” claimed to be the “UK’s Best Network” or “UK’s best mobile data network” for 4G and 5G services (mobile broadband).
