Ofcom has today published their fifth annual report into monitoring of the Open Internet Access Regulations (OIAR), also known as “net neutrality” rules. In short, no particular concerns regarding providers’ (broadband ISPs and mobile operators) practices were identified, but there were some interesting little tidbits.

Hull-based UK ISP KCOM has today revealed that the ongoing coverage expansion of their new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network has now enabled them to pass 250,000 premises, which reflects their build across both East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire in England.

Openreach (BT) has today announced both a UK coverage expansion of their niche FTTP on Demand (FTTPoD or FoD) broadband ISP product and the introduction of a new FoD “near network commercial trial“, which looks as if it could make it significantly cheaper for some areas to order the full fibre product.

Fixed wireless access (FWA) ISP Derbyshire Broadband, which built a network to serve rural parts of Derbyshire, Cheshire and Lancashire in England (mostly around the Peak District), has finally settled a 4-year-long planning dispute over a 3.5-metre tall antenna (pole) that had stalled their ability to invest and add new customers.

Broadband ISP TalkTalk has today raised the prices for some of their legacy internet access packages by £2.50 extra per month. On top of that, some of the UK provider’s calling charges (for those not covered by an inclusive allowance) will also be increasing again from 1st December 2021.
