Customers of mobile operator EE (BT) may be pleased to learn that they’ll be zero-rating data (free usage) across their entire mobile network for the Coronation of King Charles III on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th May 2023, “as the nation unites to celebrate the crowning of His Majesty” (yeah.. ok).
Just to be absolutely clear, EE’s free data period will start from 12 noon on Saturday 6th and run until midnight on Sunday 7th May (this also applies even if you’ve already used up your data allowance). Admittedly, we rather suspect that some people won’t be quite as keen to celebrate “the crowning of His Majesty” as EE seems to be, but in any case.. thanks for the free data.
Marc Allera, CEO of EE, said: “It’s an incredibly exciting time for the country as we mark the coronation of King Charles III. We want to ensure our customers can make the most of their celebrations across the weekend. We know the last thing anyone wants to worry about is their data running out while they’re enjoying the weekend. So, across Saturday and Sunday, our customers will be able to count on our award-winning network to stream the historic moment and stay connected with family and friends.”

UPDATE 3:09pm
The information in EE’s press release, which states free data will start “from 12 noon Saturday 6th“, appears to conflict slightly with the information on their website, which states that “free data will start at 00:01 on Saturday 6 May 2023” (i.e. not 12 noon on Saturday 6th). We’ve asked EE to clarify.
UPDATE 4:36pm
EE has apologised for the mistake and confirmed that the period will start at 00.01 on Saturday morning. In addition, EE’s website states that “the zero rating applies to PAYM and PAYG customers, excluding business customers.”

Not a big fan of the monarchy but King Charles has been on a roll with these back holidays! Gonna miss these 4 day work weeks
I am already on four-day work weeks, but i still have to work on bank holidays unless I book them off, not that I am bothered I get paid extra for doing the same amount of hours
May well be the last monarch given the direction of the country.
Fingers and toes crossed!
Report is slightly incorrect: according to https://ee.co.uk/coronation “Free data will start at 00:01 on Saturday 6 May 2023 and run until midnight on Sunday 7 May 2023.”
Sadly 1p mobile will not benefit from this!
What do you expect if you’re paying a penny?
Trust me paying 1p is a killer if you do a speedtest and forget you are not on WIFI!
I don’t want free data for 2 days – 200GB for £20 is more than generous enough!
Never mind, I am sure you are not going to use your phone any differently. I certainly will not be.
In fact you get 204,800MB so that’s even more than advertised!
EE told me on chat only for pay monthly contract (not available on Pay As You Go!)
EE’s website says: “The zero rating applies to PAYM and PAYG customers, excluding business customers.”
Well done EE great for sharing content on the iconic day
I would prefer it if my MNO kept out of constitutional ‘celebrations’, however Marc personally feels about it, it would be respectful to acknowledge that not everyone feels the same about this “exciting” time (what exactly is exciting?).
Good luck to our King.
He’ll have croaked within a year, much like the monarchy writ large.
With a bit of luck you will croak first @John 🙂
Watched a painful 20 second clip of the farcical pantomime… Chaz in his ridiculous metal hat, clutching magical maces, wading along aided by two fawning sycophants elevating his imperial petticoats above the carpet… utterly nauseating nonsense.
I sincerely hope this is the final performance.
Those who say this kind of thing are non-believers in British heritage, they are normally people from far flung places that clearly want to destroy our identity so they can move in and bring everything they left behind.
thanks for sharing. go bore someone else with your republic rant.
Not everyone has the same interests. I think paintballing is a stupid waste of time but I don’t want to stop other people enjoying it or go posting negative messages about it on paintballing websites.
Our monarchy doesn’t have any political sway so its not like an unelected ruling party, it’s more history and tradition. Many people in the UK love the pomp and ceremony and it also advertises the UK to the rest of world. What else could we do in the UK that would see the same level of interest all over the planet like the coronation and promote tourism to the UK?
As for the cost to the UK tax payer, its about 50p a year per person, you should be spending more time taking an interest in what happens to the other thousands of pounds in taxes most of us pay and where that goes!
All these people protesting and shouting “Not my King” are just selfish, they need to spend their time on more worthy protests and leave others to enjoy what they want to enjoy.
The selfish people deserve their 50 pence back. Lol
Stick to reporting the news, please, Mark
