The Co-Founder and Chairman of alternative rural broadband ISP Fibrus, Conal Henry, will tomorrow tell the Connected Britain event that Government subsidies (e.g. the £5bn Project Gigabit programme) are being “wasted” due to Ofcom’s rules allegedly making the roll-out of rural broadband “unnecessarily expensive“.

New techy-focused broadband ISP Olilo, which only launched a few short weeks ago (here), has this week announced that they’ve just placed their first consumer Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) orders via the aquila platform from AllPoints Fibre Networks’ (APFN). The latter is a wholesale platform that aggregates connectivity from several different full fibre networks.

Network operator nexfibre and supporting broadband ISP partner Virgin Media (O2), which share some of the same parentage, have today announced that they’ve expanded the reach of their symmetric 2Gbps speed full fibre (FTTP) network to more than 21,000 homes in the West Sussex seaside town of Littlehampton “for the first time“.

Openreach (BT), which is currently in the process of converting the “majority” of their commercial UK vehicle fleet (i.e. 23,000 vans and cars) to Electric Vehicles by the end of March 2031, has announced a new deal that will see myenergi supply thousands of smart ‘zappi’ EV chargers to its engineers – giving them a simple way to charge vehicles at home overnight.

The London North Eastern Railway (LNER) has announced that customers travelling along a picturesque 45-mile stretch of the line in Northumberland (England) can now access “significantly improved mobile phone and Wi-Fi connectivity“. This is thanks to a joint project with Railsite Telecom, O2 and VodafoneThree (Vodafone and Three UK).

Hampshire-based alternative network builder and UK ISP toob, which has deployed a gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across parts of South England and also harnesses CityFibre’s network in other areas, has today announced that they’ve connected their 100,000th customer (up from 90k on 12th June 2025).

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has today provided more details to ISPreview on their future plans for a trial of full fibre broadband (FTTP) using 10Gbps capable XGS-PON technology in early 2026. The trial is planned to reach about 40,000 premises in Guildford and push download speeds from ISPs up to a blistering 8.5Gbps (8,500Mbps).

One of the country’s largest alternative broadband networks, Netomnia (Substantial Group), which has now covered 2.8 million UK premises RFS (inc. 400,000 customers) with their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network (up from 2.7m on 1st Sept 2025), have this morning announced a refresh of their brand following the merger with Brsk.
