Broadband and telecoms giant BT has today gone live with their revived BT Mobile service, which among other things confirms that the details we uncovered on Monday were correct (here). All the plans feature basic 30-day rolling SIM Only contracts with capped data allowances and are exclusively for the provider’s own broadband customers.

Wireless infrastructure firm Cellnex UK, which manages approximately 14,000 mast and other sites across the country (often on behalf of 4G / 5G mobile operators), has today launched a new Community Fund that commits £180,000 in its first year to organisations in the communities hosting its infrastructure.

Communications and broadband provider BT Business has today launched a new suite of “industrial-grade” cybersecurity tools to help the UK’s small and medium-sized enterprises tackle cyber criminals. The ISP will also provide a new Cyber Support Hub to help SMEs stay safe online, including free access to their “cyber advisors“.

GoFibre network engineers hat

Edinburgh-based UK alternative network provider GoFibre, which is building full fibre (FTTP) broadband across rural parts of Scotland and Northern England, has today announced that the first premises have just gone live under their £105m (public subsidy) Project Gigabit contract to cover 63,000 hard-to-reach premises in North East Scotland (100,000 if you include their commercial roll-out).

Google and Apple recently began bringing cross-platform end-to-end encryption to Rich Communication Services (RCS), which is a data-only messaging service that’s intended to replace traditional SMS text messaging (you need a mobile internet / broadband connection for it to work). But it’s not yet fully available from all UK mobile operators.
