CMA publish replies to provisional rejection of nexfibre’s £2bn UK Netomnia broadband deal

The Competition and Markets Authority has today published the industry responses to their interim report on the proposed £2bn purchase of full fibre broadband network Netomnia (Substantial Group) by the parents of nexfibre and Virgin Media (O2), which was provisionally blocked last month. Nexfibre argues that the third-party responses reinforce concerns that the CMA’s findings relied on speculative assumptions.

Broadband and mobile operator VodafoneThree (Vodafone and Three UK) has announced that they’ve become the first provider in the world to start deploying Ericsson’s new AIR 3266 Massive MIMO Antenna with integrated 5G Standalone (5G+) radio kit for mid-band spectrum, which promises improved spectral efficiency, performance (mobile broadband speeds) and power savings.

Mobile operator Three UK (VodafoneThree) has reduced the monthly price of their unlimited Three 5G Home Broadband (affiliate link) package yet again, this time dropping it to just £15 £13 per month on a 24-month contract term, which either ships with an indoor router or their 5G Outdoor Hub (Y5-210MU) + one eero Mesh 6+ router.

Consultancy firm FarrPoint has published a new study that highlights the economic impact of outages and the need for resilience across power and communications networks (broadband and mobile). The study claims that a 1-hour power outage affecting approximately 3,540 premises in the Morpeth area (Northumberland) may have resulted in approximately £48,500 of lost productivity.

Starlink confusingly discounts price of UK satellite broadband by 30 percent

Barely a week has passed since Starlink (SpaceX) adopted dynamic pricing on its residential ultrafast broadband plans in the UK (e.g. 100Mbps speeds from c.£32 to £40 per month) and this week the satellite operator has followed that up by announcing a further discount of 30% for the whole of November 2026 – on both their home and roaming plans.
