EE has made their superfast “Unlimited Fibre Broadband” (FTTC) packages, which offer download speeds of up to 76Mbps and currently benefit from a reduced one-off connection fee of £25, even cheaper by extending the existing 3 months half-price promotion to last for 6 months (hard luck if you signed up last month).

BT’s consumer ISP division has confirmed that their new and re-contracting broadband subscribers will continue to benefit from free access to BTSport TV content for a second season and the operator also revealed that around 5 million UK homes now view the service (3 million come direct from BT and the rest via wholesale partners).

Shropshire-based Internet provider Aquiss has reintroduced the offer of a free installation or migration alongside their superfast unlimited “fibre broadband” (FTTC) packages, which will save new customers up to £96 inc. VAT off the normal retail price. But there’s more.

The Post Office has quietly tweaked their broadband and phone prices, which sees the standard cost of line rental increase from £12 to £13 inc. VAT per month, while the price of broadband access has fallen to compensate and you now get a £50 bill credit. Sadly free UK evening calls have been removed.

Sky Broadband (BSkyB) will later today slash the cost of their superfast (‘up to’ 38Mbps) Sky Fibre Unlimited (FTTC) broadband package from £20 to just £7.50 per month for the first 6 months of service. Both new and existing customers should be able to take advantage.

At present you’d be hard pressed to find an ISP that offers an up to 40-80Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) based superfast broadband service with anything less than a 12 month contract, which is how it comes packaged by the supplier. But Devon-based ISP Pulse8 has decided to do away with this and take a risk on a 1 month term.

Mobile operator EE has announced that their customers in the United Kingdom will now also be able to benefit from “superfast” 4G (LTE) based Mobile Broadband connectivity when roaming around France and Spain, which will be offered at no extra cost over their existing charges. More countries to follow.

Broadband provider Satellite Internet, which delivers its service via the SES (ASTRA) platform of spacecraft, has followed the example of some rival ISPs and launched their own optional “low-cost equipment rental scheme“. The new method effectively replaces the large one-off setup cost with a monthly rental payment of £12.50 on a 24 month contract.

Budget communications provider TalkTalk has reduced the price(s) of their triple-play Essentials TV and Plus TV (YouView) broadband bundles to £5 and £10 per month respectively for the first 6 months of service (£7.50 and £15.50 thereafter). A £50 Love2Shop voucher has also been included.

BT appears to have increased the value of their Sainsbury’s Gift Cards with standard broadband packages from £25 to £50 (until 17th February), while those included alongside their superfast broadband BTInfinity packages have jumped from £50 to £100. Most of their packages are currently also being offered at half-price for 3-6 months.
