BT has today published their latest Q2-2014 (calendar) results and confirmed that its retail broadband base suffered a slowing of growth (+104k in Q2 vs +170k in Q1-2014) to total 7,385,000 customers. The operator has also revealed a new trial of superfast broadband FTTrn technology in London and confirmed that its FTTC network now reaches 20 million UK homes and businesses (premises passed).

The joint state aid supported £35.6 million project to roll-out BT’s “superfast broadband” (25Mbps+ FTTC/P) network to 91% of premises in Wiltshire by March 2016 and 94% of South Gloucestershire by the end of March 2015 has now helped to reach a total of 11,549 premises and more areas are due to be connected soon.

The London Borough of Camden in England has today become the first of seventeen councils in the capital city to confirm a free public Wi-Fi (wireless internet) service to streets and open spaces across the borough, though it’s only free for the first 30 minutes of use (daily).

Communications provider Spectrum Interactive has announced that they are opening up their wifi hotspots in London (England, UK) to offer free internet access, albeit with a small catch. Users will only be granted access to FREE Street Wi-Fi if they first select a free promotional offer from one of the service partners.
