Back in August we reported on the plight of residents and businesses in the Welsh town of Penrhyndeudraeth (
here). They had been suffering repeated broadband (ADSL) connectivity problems on their exchange, regardless of ISP choice, since late 2007 and were finally at the end of their tether with
BT.
Today Mike Gruen, from MG Media Solutions based in Penrhyndeudraeth, informs us that the situation has not improved: "
Since the publication of the article, the community of Penrhyndeudraeth has suffered further broadband 'black-outs'. The most recent during the period from 12/11/08 to 01/12/08," said Gruen.
The community has now launched an online petition for
BT to action a much needed upgrade to its local telephone exchange in order to prevent further un-scheduled service outages:
http://www.penrhynexchange.comWe find the broadband service outages, which we have suffered repeatedly in the past year, totally unacceptable. We urge
BT to find a permanent solution to the fault(s), which cause all broadband connections linked to the Penrhyndeudraeth Exchange, irrespective of ISP, to suffer a total loss in download speed for periods of up to two weeks at a time.
We ask
BT for an increased level of transparency and communication while investigating, repairing and upgrading Penrhyn broadband network in order to maintain good relations with
BTs domestic, business and wholesale customers.
Please do not let our community's internet users, who have grown to rely on their broadband connections for business, domestic and social use, suffer any more un-scheduled service outages.
Presently the petition, which calls upon
BT to upgrade the exchange to 21CN (21st Century Network) technology ahead of the currently proposed switchover target (Q1 2010), has managed to gain 56 signatures despite only having been online for less than a day.
