ISPA Defends ISPs Anti-SPAM Policy

Posted: 10th Jul, 2003 By: MarkJ
The Internet Services Providers Association (ISPA) will use today's second All-Party Parliamentary Internet Group (APIG) 'Spam Summit' to deny claims that UK ISPs support spam (junk e-mail):

"Sadly there is still the misconception that ISPs are happy to process spam," said Jessica Hendrie-Liaño, chair of ISPA Council. "Spam is a cost to ISPs in terms of time and resources. It is that simple. Hopefully APIG's oral evidence session will enable us to put the record straight once and for all."

ISPA will explain the costs ISPs incur by providing spam reporting services and the resources associated with monitoring email systems, the costs of deploying and updating software and the negative effect that spam has on the hardware ISPs use.

In addition, Hendrie-Liaño said the summit would hear about the range of technical, operational and educational measures that ISPs are taking in their ongoing battle with the global spam problem. She added that ISPA believes that combating spam requires a co-ordinated global approach that involves the end-user and action from governments.
