Enableserve's Disability Friendly ISP

Posted: 03rd Jul, 2004 By: MarkJ
Enableserve is preparing to launch what's claimed to be "the UK’s first accessible internet service provider", meaning an ISP for those with disabilities (blindness etc.):

Enableserve.co.uk, the UK’s first accessible internet service provider, is launched

Enableserve.co.uk is proud to unveil the world’s first accessible internet service provider, designed to be fully accessible by all. With 49%, over 12 million households1, online in the UK, internet access is a mainstream product but not inclusive to all. http://www.Enableserve.co.uk has changed that.

“The team at Enableserve.co.uk believe individuals accessing the internet should be given access options not just for internet browsing but for internet access and registration” says Enableserve.co.uk founder Grant Joiner.

Creating an accessible internet service provider requires a detailed look at the whole journey, the journey from discovery to connection. Therefore all our promotional and advertising materials are available in alternative formats as is our registration. Registration can be carried out online, by calling Enableserve, requesting a call back as well as print, large print, Braille and Audio CD registration forms.

The Enableserve.co.uk design is screen-reader and magnification friendly, so if your using products such as JAWS and Zoomtext your welcome at Enableserve. We have also incorporated access options to aid accessible such as a text only version of the site. In addition Enableserve.co.uk is working towards the following accessibility guidelines :

- Priorities 1, 2 and 3 of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

- The Bobby Guidelines, to AAA standard

- By the end of 2004 we will annually audited for accessibility by the Royal National Institute for the Blind.

Judging by their website, most of the services are not yet live, with some or all being ready for August 2004.

Their unmetered 24/7 package should cost £15.49 and the standard 'Bronze' HOME ADSL service a hefty £27.99 per month.
