Having lost one promotional deal with
Freeserve, Dixons has gone on to officially confirm a new one with ISP AOL UK. The agreement means that Dixons will promote and distribute AOL's Internet dial-up services in its high-street stores:
The deal with AOL will mean that computers bought from PC World, Dixons, Currys and The Link stores will come pre-loaded with AOL's dial-up service instead of Freeserve.
Freeserve, which is owned by French ISP Wanadoo, said in a statement that its business goal of reaching profitability in 2004 remains the priority and that if it were to agree the new terms proposed by Dixons to renew the agreement it would be held back from achieving this aim.
A separate agreement between Dixons and Freeserve for broadband distribution remains unaffected and will continue through to mid February 2005.The matter of "who dropped who first" seems to vary depending on which press release you read =). More @
