For anyone interested, we have just moved our broadband package with Xilo from the standard package (BT) to the Pro 24 75GB package (uses Talk Talk). We have a long, noisy phone line and the only option at the exchange is BT or Talk Talk. Much as I wanted to get away from BT, was put off by TalkTalks's service reputation until I noticed the Pro 24 75GB package from Xilo. Took the plunge, it went live today and is a great improvement. These are my results, with some tweaking of SNR margin to get best stable speed (modem is Billion 7800N, faceplate filter at master socket):

This morning with BT

Line Attenuation Downstream 63.0 dB

Line Attenuation Upstream 28.0 dB

SNR Margin Downstream 4.1 dB

SNR Margin Upstream 21.0 dB

Modem Sync Downstream 2816 Kb/s

Modem Sync Upstream 448 Kb/s

BT IP Profile 2000 Kb/s

speedtest.net 1.86 Mb/s down, 0.38 Mb/s up

This evening with Pro 24 75GB

Line Attenuation Downstream 54.5 dB

Line Attenuation Upstream 32.0 dB

SNR Margin Downstream 3.8 dB

SNR Margin Upstream 6.5 dB

Modem Sync Downstream 3573 Kb/s

Modem Sync Upstream 1020 Kb/s

speedtest.net 3.07 Mb/s down, 0.78 Mb/s up

Not only is this at least 50% faster than BT, it is also much more stable. With BT, iplayer frequently stuttered at standard quality; with Pro 24 75GB, can watch iplayer at HD with no stuttering. This is by far the best connection that I know of in the village - most people suffer with 1 to 1.5 Mb/s connections on BT. The support from Xilo has been fantastic - more expensive than the cheapo packages, but worth it.

Benn with several ISP's over the last 5 years or so (Zen, Pipex, etc etc) and always had a slow connection <600k at best, with frequent drop outs etc. Always told it was due to line length.
Joined Xilo about 8 months ago and continued to have issues until last week when Xilo took over my line at the exchange. No longer on BT's IP profiling, Im now on Xilo's pro LLU system and our connection has shot up to 2mb, nice and stable!!

To say Im pleased with the effort that Xilo have put in, both from support and sales, is an understatement.

Id recommend them to anyone.

I moved to XILO after a series of insurmountable problems with Sky – I was actually told by Sky that the reason my broadband service was so slow or failed intermittently was because there was a virus on one of our devices.

Originally I chose XILO because they offered a 1 month rolling contract and, given the level of frustration I experienced from customer support at Sky, I wanted to be able to move to an alternative ISP if they didn't perform.

I have now been with them for nearly 18 months and I am seriously impressed with both the speed and reliability of their service (currently on the Office 15GB 21CN Service but moving to the BE Pro 24 Unlimited shortly). Not only are the products they offer seriously impressive but their customer service & support is second to none and they actually know what they are talking about.

10 out of 10 and I would recommend them to anyone looking for fast reliable broadband and impressive customer service and support.

Was once a long time suffer with Tiscal, which once, to total surprise, taken over/bought out by TalkTalk got a whole lot worse. In that if I was lucky I could just about get 1mb download speed and sky high ping. TalkTalk customer service was no better then the broadband they were providing and when I said I was leaving to get a better broadband they, which made me laugh, said that I couldn’t get any better broadband and that they would all be the same.
Well after a lot of looking and reading reviews I went with Xilo (Uno) and I am so glad I did. From day one I was getting fantastic broadband, customer service and amazing ping as well (currently going at 6mb download, ~0.8mbps upload and 14-18 ping; which for where I live is fantastic) and has remained like that for about a year and 9 months, which now will hopefully get higher speeds as I will soon be upgraded to 21CN which was handled brilliantly by Matt.
It may cost more then some but boy is it worth it. Thanks Xilo (Uno) for an outstanding broadband and customer service/support. One very happy customer

Was with UKFSN for several years until the recent congestion problems reduced my previously solid 8meg connection by around 75% and caused lots of stability problems. Decided to look for an alternative ISP with ONE MONTH contracts (i refuse to sign up for longer!) and came across XILO. Decided to give their 16Mb Pro package a fair chance and have been extremely pleased over the last few months. Everything went to plan and Matt has been excellent for some proper one-to-one customer service. Connection is extremely stable and uptime is often in excess of 7 days.

Very pleased so far and the one month contracts mean i can easily move elsewhere if the service deteriorates in the future.

EDIT 18/12/2011:
Thought I'd add an update to say that I'm still with XILO and have no complaints whatsoever. My router syncs at around 10MB and download speeds are just shy of 1MB/s. I don't know anyone who lives near me and gets more than half of my speeds. Even Sky's LLU service is only delivering 3MB to 4MB to the house next door, which is connected to the same telegraph pole as mine! Not the cheapest at £18 a month but you get what you pay for...

My area has just been upgraded to fiber and previously having a very long line and barely able to get 1Mb the decision to move to something faster was easy.

I didn't want to move to BT and although i'm paying a little bit more per month, I know that the service I will receive will be immeasurably better.

Engineer came and did the install and was here for 3 hours after some BT cockups! but thankfully got me working. Initially was shown a speed of 12Mbit which was a little disappointing but after BT tinkered with the green cabinet which is outside my house i now have the full 40Mbit which is just simply amazing.

Thoughtput is consistent and can now do things that I have never done before. My friends would bang on about iplayer and ch4od, about how good it was and I could barely open the player, let alone stream anything. Funny now too as they're only able to get 10Mb at best. Green with envy.

It was also nice to see that I was offered a half price installation as a thank you for my loyalty in staying as a customer. I ordered a preconfigured router, which arrived well on time, 4 days before and worked out of the box.

A very easy experience, just how things should be making one very happy customer.

Very easy to change to XILO, Interface is excellent. Billing and set-up easy to understand.

I opted for Pro 16 LLU option, would have gone with pro 24, but have some existing line problems so 16meg will be some achievement. Will probably upgrade to 24 after my 1st contract.

Just recieved router, with plenty of time to spare before switch-over.

Perma-care from Matt, on XILO community forum and on here. TBH, feels a lot better than dealing with multinationals, so far feels like the customer matters and price beats BT(if u have been daft enough to be loyal to BT, 30 year old account).

Will Update info as i go

Update 1, Exceptional service, also would like to take the opportunity to thank this site.
I dont want to go into too much detail, as i guess this is one of the reasons people are so kind with reviews of this ISP. Suffice to say they have just saved me around £200. Wow thanks, this has gotta be some of the best levels of customer CARE, in the whole of industry. 1. XILO, 2. Dyson, 3. EVGA ? best 3 in my experience, others may have different experience.

Update 2, Flawless change-over and synced at 5.17Meg, twice the speed of old isp.
Eventually was able to speak to a real person at BT, i had to change my Direct Debit (i tried to use auto-option on telephone, it did not offer me an option to decrease my payments and suggested i should increase payment, to £50. True payment amount £15 (approx). To his credit the scottish guy i spoke too, was brilliant and sorted my problem in a couple of minutes. Honestly, BT has really let me down. I have read reviews from people here saying they getting a great deal as new customers. In my opinion, this is because they use LOYAL customers to subsidise new deals. I think we should not allow them to use the name British anymore, they get so much Kudos from it, and it is not deserved or reflects British standards of service. XILO is the epitomy of British levels of CARE. BT also charge you 3 months in advance on direct debits, only discovered this when had time to sit-down and scrutinise my bill.

Update 3, 10 Stars XILO/UNO

Hitting steady 8 compared to 2.2, and things have not settled down yet. 1st time i have ever been able to complete packet loss section of a pingtest(a month ago i didn't know what a speedtest was, heheh.) thanks again ISPrUK, guided me through the mist. A totally honest consumer based site, 10 Stars also. saved me a good bit of money.

The number of companies I recommend to friends I can count on the fingers of one hand. Xilo/uno are by far the best of that very short list. Their products are excellent and, above all, their support is absolutely incredible.

We have been waiting for ADSL in our rural backwater ever since the exchange was enabled in 2005. We have ordered twice via BT to no avail.

Last month we asked XILO to try to get us a rate-adaptive connection. BT failed to turn up twice for engineer visits ; the third time they managed to visit - but still no ADSL - we are over 11km from the exchange.

However, via the sterling efforts of Matt and colleagues, at XILO we now have an always-on connection running at 10 times the speed of dial-up. Why have we given them 10/10 for speed ? because they are the only people to have given us an always-on connection and it has been solid for the last 4 days. We know that this is probably the fastest speed we are likely to get until, in many years time, fibre is brought to the cabinet - after all it took years for the exchange to be enabled.

So once again many thanks from a very happy user. XILO you guys have gone above and beyond.

EB

I have just migrated from AAISP, whose services I enjoyed for 19 months; a very good ISP they are too. I had experienced much faster download speeds with AAISP than I had experienced with all other ISPs, including NewNet and IDNET. My only grumble was that speeds had recently reduced between about 8pm and midnight.

I migrated to UNO Broadband on 22nd March 2010, solely because my needs had changed & I require significantly more daytime, Peak Period usage. That was putting AAISP beyond my financial means.

I was very pleased to receive my AAISP MAC within seconds of requesting it & even more pleased when migration happened in three working days!

What I did NOT expect though, was the instant & consistent increase in download speeds that I am getting with UNO. I was getting about 5500kbps at best, with AAISP & I am getting more than 6200kbps with UNO, virtually all the time, with NO significant slowdown at any time at all.

I messed up my DNS settings on my PC & had to telephone Scott in UNO support so that I could get online. He answered within two rings and sorted me out in about 20 seconds; now that is what I call EXCELLENT.

EDIT 26th July 2011:
I regret that the need to reduce telephone & ISP costs (again) mean that I am migrating to The Phone Co-op's all-in-one package. I must thank XILO/UNO for sending me my MAC within a couple of minutes of me requesting it & also I must thank them for an EXCELLENT SERVICE over the past 16 months. If things go pear-shaped at The Phone Co-op, I'll be back!
