 Truespeed (Broadband Fixed Line)

I have been with Truespeed for a few months. Previously with Vfe 4G and before that Voneus.

Overall I am satisfied with the service. Reliablly get 200Mbps down and ~350Mbps up. Reliablilty has been good. Had one outage for about 2 hours.

Support have been responsive and knowledgeable when I ahve contacted them.

There are some downside though. On the basic package and the home worker package you have to use supplied router. The router is (or would be) good as it's a decent Frtzbox but it is totally locked down.

Fortunately it is possible to use your own router behind it by putting your router in DMZ and essentially having all ports forwarded to your own router. This has worked well for me.

You can only get a static IP with the business package and that is expensive so that is a bummer. Again I ahve worked around this by using DDNS updated from my PFSense router to domains hosted by NAMECHEAP.

I don't use the Truespeed VOIP service and their call costs are expensive and not vert transparent. I use alternative VOIP provider over Truespeed and that works fine. Also have no issues using Vodafone SureSignal, PLEX server etc etc. I host a couple of websites as well and that works fine.

Nothing to complain about other than the fact that getting a static IP is very very expensive and the locked down router.

 Voneus (Broadband Fixed Line)

Overall a good service and has got better. I have been with Voneus for a couple of years. It is under fixed line section here but it is really delivered via wireless (well it is where I live). I pay £35 for the uncapped package. I am also getting a static IP address which they are not charging me for - shh, don't tell them. The static IP is crucial for me as otherwise it would be a double NAT with no port forwarding possible which is useless to me. I am 3 or 4 hops away from the main mast which is not good but in general reliability has been good. Speed has improved over time and is now very good indeed. I am usually getting 50 to 60Mbps down and 50 to 100Mbps up. I am quite satisfied with these speeds. Ping is also reasonably good. The service is good regardless of time of day.

The support is junk though. They don't reply at all by email. If there is an outage you need to ring them up (luckily I manage a weak mobile signal where I live). Outages are fixed quite quickly.

I am sure it is not the most reliable service but it is not bad considering the technology. My alternative would be ADSL at 3Mbps or very flaky cellular at about 10Mbps and a low data cap.

Gigaclear 'should' be coming to town if the CDS debacle is ever resolved and I will upgrade to their 300Mbps service when they do.

 Sky (Broadband Fixed Line)

I changed to Sky ADSL a couple years ago after terrible trouble with BT. There was a problem in the BT exchange that caused disconnects every time the phone rang. Openreach replaced everything including a new wire to the property to no avail as it was not an Openreach issue. Sky was the only alternative LLU option and as soon as the switch over the issues resolved. I have had a couple of communications with Sky because of line faults and they have been polite and professional. Our line is poor due to a 6km overhead copper cable that runs straight to the exchange resulting in 3Mbps. The Sky service itself has been reliable with no slow downs and I would recommend Sky. According to BT I am on sub 2Mbps line and as such I believe that Sky would not now accept me as a new customer which is a great shame.

I have not tried using the Sky router.

I am just about to switch to Voneus fixed wireless internet so will be leaving Sky. Lets hope the Sky service termination process is simple.

In summary the Sky experience has been uneventful which is a compliment.

C.
