Continental Telecom (CT), a phone and broadband operator, has been told that it could be fined up to £50,000 or face court action if, by 25th November 2010, they have failed to comply with an earlier demand to stop breaking consumer protection rules.

According to the latest Arbor Networks statistics, search engine and advertising giant Google now represents an average 6.4% of all Internet traffic around the world. If Google were a broadband ISP, as of this month it would rank as the second largest carrier on the planet.

The UK Government has revealed its National Infrastructure Plan 2010 and reaffirmed a commitment to spend £530m on "providing [the country with] the best superfast broadband in Europe by 2015". In addition it confirmed that a National Broadband Strategy (NBS) plan will also be published in December 2010, a month later than expected.

Southwest One, a Joint Venture (JV) partnership formed in 2007 between Somerset County Council, Taunton Deane Borough Council, Avon and Somerset Police and computer giant IBM, has announced the development of a new "super-fast" fibre optic broadband network to connect up the County's 269 schools and educational establishments.

The government has announced some new information about its recently revealed superfast broadband pilots in the Highlands and Islands (Scotland), Cumbria, North Yorkshire and the Golden Valley, Herefordshire (England). The projects were officially revealed on Wednesday as part of the Chancellor's Spending Review.

Internet and phone provider TalkTalk UK has warned the government not to spend part of its £530m broadband fund on helping rural areas get superfast internet access. The often outspoken ISP claimed that preventing the Digital Divide from getting worse would be the "wrong focus".

A new Ofcom study has estimated that, over the past two years, up to 2 Million UK consumers have switched (migrated) away from their broadband internet or phone provider without realising that they could have claimed cash back for money paid in advance. A total of at least £10 Million has been left unclaimed.

Media giant BSkyB ( Sky Broadband ) has released its latest set of quarterly results to 30th September 2010 and revealed that they are now home to 2,802,000 broadband ISP subscribers. That's an impressive increase of +178,000 net additions above Q2-2010's +119,000 and Q1's +101,000.
