UK ISP PlusNet have expanded their 6 Months Half Price Home Broadband with free phone calls deal to include their top-end 'Extra' packages, which bundles a larger 60GB usage allowance.

Existing O2 Mobile customers in the UK can now take the operators Home Broadband (fixed line) service at half price for 12 months, while new customers are still able to take advantage of 3 months free service. A free £30 credit is also being thrown in.

A new study from Arieso, the UK based wireless optimization firm, has revealed that a top 1% of heavy Mobile Broadband users consume half of all downloaded data. Owners of Apple's iPhone 4S Smartphone were also found to be some of the worst data hogs.

The UK Valuation Office Agency (VOA) appears to have proposed a new way of taxing Next Generation Access (NGA) fibre optic broadband lines in rural areas where public subsidies are required. The move, if implemented, could result in smaller ISPs being taxed in a similar way to big operators.

The latest consumer broadband speed testing statistics for UK ISPs shows that the overall average internet download speed has grown sharply from 5.685Mbps last year to 7.578Mbps now. Cable operator Virgin Media remains the fastest provider, although BT and Eclipse Internet also made significant gains.
